Original Artwork by Colleen Rae Smiley

Textile Artist

Colleen and I met many years ago in New York City, where she helped me with my millinery business creating sculptural experimental headwear…
Her latest show featured appliqué inspired by the Suffragette & Victorian Spiritualist movements.

These wearable pieces were inspired by the shape and symbology of antique Freemason aprons; the full Beaver Moon (right side) and by beavers’ role in the history of the Americas, now rightfully added to these 1970s era Bicentennial textiles. (left side).
