The Squarehead

Built 1910

San Francisco, CA

Stay tuned to find exhibits and events aboard the Squarehead in San Francisco!

A wooden hay scow replica

perhaps a former paint barge?

renovated into a houseboat in Sausalito in the 1960s

Now, a floating mini-museum.

Footage from pilot presentation, July 15th, 2023

Inspired by the Museum of Jurassic Technology, the Musée Mechanique, Tinker Town & the Abita Mystery House - we are creating a mini-museum showing and telling glimpses, visions and speculations in the form of exhibits, footage and more.

Our current exhibition explores the phenomenon of stigmergy, and honors the beaver for its contributions in legend, myth and present day.

We look at its role in the world of fashion, its value - which enriched one man to own much of Manhattan, and drove a bloody and decimating Westward Expansion - as well as wildfire mitigation, early medicine, and terraformation. Find out about castoreum, and imagine the life of a late 20th century religious group drawn to emulate this keystone species in habit and deed.

The Squarehead, a historic 1931 wooden “hay scow” type boat, will travel from the Delta region, across the Bay, to return to its city of origin, San Francisco.
